VOLUNTEER PROJECTS FOR 2011

2010 Accomplishments

*All of our work was accomplished with a part-time farm manager and over 120 volunteers!

The Farm

  • Hired a farm manager;
  • Planted the first crops;
  • Set up an irrigation system;
  • Developed a harvest and distribution system for institutions;
  • Planted cover crops on 20+ acres to prepare for organic certification in 2012;
  • Provided weekly supply of produce to Oconomowoc and Waukesha hospitals, Angel’s Grace Hospice and ProHealth Corporate cafeteria;
  • Expanded produce fields for higher yields in 2011; and
  • Conducted educational tours in the field.

Education

  • Established an active volunteer corps. numbering 120+;
  • Established research and education teams;
  • Secured sponsorship for and planted the “Good Harvest Secret Garden” for kids;
  • Developed educational programming with K-12 area school districts including WCTC and UW-Waukesha;
  • Launched education programming for the schools including “in field” study;
  • Secured in-kind services from WCTC to develop and launch the website and other promotional materials;
  • Launched outreach campaign with presentations to service groups and continuing education for nurses; and
  • Secured funding for an independent web designer.

Buildings and Grounds

  • Secured land lease from ProHealth Care for 35 acres;
  • Completed asbestos abatement from the existing building;
  • Brought the barn and farmhouse up to code in preparation for renovation;
  • Secured Kubala Washatko Architects, Inc. who provided land use design and renderings for the Education/Research Center;
  • Secured investment by community groups for land reclamation and preparation; and
  • Secured in-kind gifts for renovation of historical farmhouse into offices and farmer housing.
